How to speed up surfing while downloading torrents?

Whenever i download anything from torrents my NET surfing crawls like ****...If i click on pause torrents...the speed is fast for surfing..

is there any way to download torrents without affecting the Surf speed?|||Upgrade your internet service to allow higher bandwidth and download speeds.

Costs more, but its more effective.|||Either get faster internet that can handle both, or, most torrent programs have an option to limit how much bandwidth they are using. Experiment with different amounts til you find a good balance. utorrent is arguably the best torrent client and it has this option.|||thing u must know bfore using torrent

u must forward a port to dwd torrent @ high speed

after that browse anything u dwd speed wont affect browsing

How does a guy make his nipples feel better after surfing?

Yesterday I went surfing for the first time (in a few years) and was out for 3 hours. I waxed the board before I got in, and between the paddling and poor attempts at riding waves, I destroyed my nipples

There are some minor scabs on the nipple itself, as well as raised bumps. They are so irritated and are sensitive to certain lotions.

Anyone ever go through this and find a quick fix?.|||vitamin E straight out of the capsule. not E oil in a bottle or E lotion of any kind, but the E oil that comes out of a vitamin E capsule (vitamin) that you puncture and apply to the area yourself. magic! neosporin or cocoa butter if you don't have that.|||time more than anything will cure nipple rash. if your a guy your lucky you didn't get "sack rash". makes you walk like a duck. this may sound weird but it works. before you go to bed get some vaseline or neosporin and put that on them, then cover that up with a band aid and throw on a shirt. they wont heal over night but the hardest part is staying out of the water. if you surf they will get irritated again. use a rash guard next time and if not i guess you can duck tape some band aides over your nipples and do it that way. but nipple rash is common and you'll get use to it eventually. plus if the surfs firing that'll be the last thing on your mind.....|||ummmm well wearing a rash guard would have helped prevented it but walgreens have a vitamin e lotion that'll help along with a warm wash rag hope that helps

can you plz take a crack at my most recent question on here?|||Go visit one of your friends in jail and yell out "I KNOW HOW YOU'RE FEELING RIGHT NOW". Then lift up your shirt and say "go ahead touch it". When they won't touch it put your shredded nip to the glass and yell "OH BILLY". Hope this helps|||I'm a chick, so don't get mad if this sounds stupid, but next time where a rash guard, but make sure its not one of those cheap $5 ones. It would be good to get one from quiksilver....

BTW where do you surf? I'm an east coast girl.....|||oh boy! once i got rug burn (wont mention how) on my lower back... dude you have to ride it through. But check out the medical section next time you hit a grocery store for open sores etc... at least give it some relief man... be nice to them next time|||A quick easy way to solve this problem is wearing a rashguard. You wont get rubbed through that. I usually wear rashguards when I surf.|||This is the funniest question I've read in a long time. Just put talc (baby powder) on them gently, and if you wear a shirt, make sure it doesn't rub against them.|||Sticky plaster on them before surfing.|||it puts the lotion on its skin..|||you haven't had sex until you've done it with a board..

Is 5mbps dry dsl good enough for 3 computer users surfing on the internet ?

I would like to add 3 laptops to a 5mbps Dry DSL internet connection. Mainly these users use it for emails, surfing the internet and some YouTube clips. Would that be enough or would that lag our connection ?

Thanks|||those turtles in the exfinity commercials have faster internet so no.|||Of course that is enough. More than enough. Because of port throttling and QoS issues no one pulls down their potential usage. Other answerers need to go google goodput. Without knowing your goodput 5mbps is just some huge abstract number you wont ever hit. Also NetMeeter is a program that will give you a visual readout in real time and you can see for yourself the lack of bandwidth people actuialy use.|||It will do fine. I remember when pushing 10,000 users through an OC3 used to be more than adequate. That's an average of 2.6kbs per user during max loading or crappy modem speed. Max loading almost never happens, so real average speeds of 5mbs per user were common. 3 users will not experience lag in your configuration unless they are abusing it watching movies or streaming audio full-time in the background.|||You will be taxing it

What supporting ideas would you write about to prove that surfing is a culture?

I'm thinking about their language, music, and clothing, but I can't write much about it. Another idea is their values, their rituals, their life style...

What else would you suggest to support the idea that surfing is a culture?|||You could talk about how they migrate. Surfers move around often hitting the best surfing spots and often meet up with people they've known at previous places at new ones. They have their own clique within the larger society but are definitely a sub-culture much like you find various sub-cultures in a common high school.

1. Language - this is a big one

2. Rituals - care for their boards, when they go surfing, where they go to surf

3. Migration patterns

4. Life style - where do they live? beach condos, crash with friends, on the beach literally, etc

5. Style - clothing, hair, tan vs no tan, etc.

Hope that helped you get a bit more organized =]

Will rebooting computer erase all our Internet surfing record?

I'm not really familiar about computer maintenance but I'm planning to reboot my computer if it is able to erase all my Internet surfing record and make the surfing smoother again.|||Um, no. Rebooting, is just turning it off and back on again.

Now, if you mean restoring. Re-installing Windows back to it's original state ( I assume this an OEM computer like HP, Dell, etc ) using the restore disks, yes. In fact you will lose EVERYTHING.

If all you want do is clean up your hard disk. You can start by clicking the "Tools" tab in IE%26gt; Select Internet Options%26gt;Under Browsing History, click the delete tab%26gt; Then delete everything in the box that pops up.

Also, Open My Computer. Right click on your C:/ drive and select properties. Click Disk cleanup, make sure all the boxes are checked in the pop up screen. Ckick okay.

Finally, in the C drive properties, select the tools tab. Defragment.|||NO................|||Reboot? That does nothing to files on your hard drive. Try erasing your history, there are buttons that do it for you.|||No it won't neither will erasing your surfing record make surfing smoother again.

What are the best places to go surfing for a beginner surfer?

Planning a surfing trip for the summer and i just cant decide where to go...can you please tell me some great spots to go surfing? In U.S and Outside. Thanks|||Head East young man:

Northeastern Central Florida %26amp; Southern North Florida

(St. Augustine to Cocoa Beach )

We have a nice sand-bar and the water's not too cold most of the year. It's also not too crowded most of the time. You can catch waves in about chest deep water and catch a short ride. Perfect for beginners. Once you get your feet wet, then head West- big crowds and agressive locals are not good for the newbies. Get a longboard or a funshape. 6'6" - 10', swallow or snubtail. If you go longboard be sure it's got a large fin or a trifin design with the center fin larger, if you go funshape, get a trifin design, and don't worry about R-5 boards. Spend the money, go shopping buy yourself a board, and a good salesperson can fit you to your board. Buy it locally too. Local shapers know the breaks better.

After that outside of the US? Costa Rica- we went there on our honeymoon. wonderful little 4' waves waaaay outside for a nice long ride, also a sandy bottom.|||You might want to go to San Diego in some places they have pretty big waves and they have great spots for beginners like mission beach, 15th street del mar, coronado on the south side, crystal pier. San Diego is a great place for all kinds of surfers.|||the best place to begin surfing is blackies in newport beach. These waves are small and are easy to ride, so it would be good to start there. thats where i started off, and as you get better you move up streets. so once you master blackies, you can move onto 28st jetty and once you master that, go to 32 etc.|||For longboards you should check out San Onofre, its like $10 bucks to park all day, they have nice waves perfect for learning. Doheny is also a good beginner wave. Shortboarding? I would check out Huntington or Newport Beach.|||no dont go 2 san diego or laguna or anywhere like that. unless u like being crowded up 2 ur eyes. if u do live on the west coast go 2 mission or rincon or sandspit. if u really want a good trip come on over to the east coast.|||sandspit isn't for beginners, but go anywhere in santa barbara its nice, not really easy, but they're pretty easy,

i reccomend campus point|||anywhere down pch (pacific coast highway) is nice. Hawaii of course is the sikest but lbc and hunington have mild breakers|||Shorebreaks with sandy bottoms|||a small shore break . . .

What is the cheapest 10 inch Tablet out there for surfing the web?

I want a tablet for surfing the web and watching videos (with flash) and i don't want to spend anything more than 拢150. Are there any tablets out there that are that cheap?|||The brought the tablet from A1CS on the Monday and it was delivered on the Wednesday morning. The tablet came with a free slip case and screen protector which was a nice surprise as these were not mentioned.

First of all this is not an I Pad, but at the third of the price, more connection options and software support it gives the I Pad real competition.

The tablet itself is easy to use with external controls mounted on the top of the tablet and the interface connections down the right hand side.

What are the best surfing spots on the East Coast?

I know nothing over here can compare to waves on the west coast. I really want to get into surfing this summer, and I just want to know places with the biggest waves, and most popular. I would also like to know some of your personal favorites too! Thanks!|||St. Augustine, FL|||Cocoa Beach, FL

Wrightsville Beach, NC

What is a good surfing school at Huntington Beach?

I am looking for a good surfing school at huntington beach for a 13 year old. What is a good school for beginners at a reasonably good price that is also a good school?|||http://hbsnakesurf.com/Camp/Camp.html

Check out the HB snakes profile. He has links there.

What would influence your surfing speed on internet?

I am using a wireless modem at home. I have 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop is always slower than the laptops when surfing on internet, why?|||Your internet provider and the plan you bought is what determines your internet speed the most. However, maybe it is time for a new computer, or a reformat, as the computer hardware just may not be up to snuff or the hard drive has too much clutter (too many internet explorer plugins, too many start up programs)|||it depends on the speed of your network card your laptops most likely have faster conection than your desktop but you can upgrade your desktop easily with a later card available from most electronic shops or computer suppliers for around fifty to a hundred dollars

Can you backpack around the planet in 1 summer couch surfing?

I haven't really done to much research, its really an idea at this point. But, does anyone know how far or how much it would cost to backpack around the planet (couch surfing the whole way)? Like down from America to South America, then to New Zealand, then Australia, then up through Indonesia, up to India then some how get to Europe haha I don't have any clue yet. But give me an idea! Thanks!|||anything is possible

i know several people who have circumnavigated the world backpacking

Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and all very accomodating to backpackers (contrary to the USA that does not offer very many hostels). Also, traveling around these places by public transportation is very easy.

draw up an itinerary and go for it!|||So true! Although one of my favorite hostels is in the States (HI-NY). One quick tip I would add it so connect with locals using a site like Tripping (https://www.tripping.com). You can get tips on where the best, cheap food is and even set up free lodging. Plus you have more fun!

|||I did couch surfing/staying with pen pals, for the most part, through Europe, Russia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Georgia, India, China, Dubai, Egypt and some others.

My trip was relatively cheap because I went to cheap places mostly. I backpacked for six months for about 12,000$ USD. That includes airfare, visas, the Eurorail pass, food, etc.

I would think America, New Zealand and Australia, plus Western Europe would be more expensive in general (for food, clothes, travel, etc.) So just keep that in mind.

You probably couldn't do all of that in 1 summer. It took me 6 months and I wish I stayed longer!

Where can I go for the ultimate surfing holiday in Australia?

I love to surf but I also like to explore the holiday area when I'm not surfing. Where can I go?|||Hi,

You have several options. Australia's coastals are amazing. Whichever you choose they all have great places to surf and explore the holiday areas. Here are some of the options you can do:

1. Victoria (east coast of Australia)

Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria and been voted to be world's most livable city in the world followed by Vancouver in Canada.

The state of Victoria is famous for one of the best in the world's surf beach called Torquay. Massive wave. It's great during summer but expect some warmer wetsuit during winter but the waves are always amazing.

If you stay in the area of Torquay, you can do many things as it's a long coastal which covers many town (you might wanna stay in town other than Torquay like Airlie Beach, Bells Beach etc). Things which you can do - there're lots of natural wonders such as walking in the national park looking for water falls, the famous Great Ocean road (we have rocks formations called 12 Apostles) and lots of little cute town to explore with lighthouses.

you could drive inland a little bit to the famous national park called the Grampians. Do a hike to the top (pinnacle viewpoint) as well as other hiking tours. See the wild life as well (I spotted wallabies, wombats, and some of the other natives Australian Animals). Torquay Beach is within 1.5-2 hrs drive to Melbourne city.

2. New South Wales (east coast of Australia)

Sydney - any sydney city beaches are within proximities to the city itself so well said about holiday areas activities (that's the pro). The cons would be crowded.

Newcastle - this is about 2-3 hrs by train/buses/drive north of Sydney. It's an industrial area but have nice beaches and places to surf. It holds the annual surfing competition. You can explore the ecopark and wetlands or explore the beautiful sand dunes. During summer there're plenty of bars at night beautifully lit :)

Wollongong - approximately 75 minutes south of Sydney. It's a home of BHP Billiton office (The biggest Australia's mining company). Great beaches to surf, there's also walks around the rainforest, a lookout on top of Mount Kiera, a science and planetarium centre.

Both Wollongong and Newcastle is a mini town but has everything you need as a big town.

3. Western Australia (west coast of Australia)

Perth is the capital city of Western Australia. Western Australia has many nice beaches you can surf within close proximity of Perth. There're a lot things you can do. Long endless coastal roads, you can swim with whales, dolphins and lots of national park including the famous Kimberly national park. Western Australia's one of the biggest state in Australia. Getting from one end to the other certainly takes time but you won't probably notice since there're lots of beautiful sceneries and activities to do :).

To give you idea of location and how long these cities are connected - From Melbourne to Sydney is about 1.5 hrs by plane. From Melbroune to Perth is about 4 hrs by plane.

Weather wise - Perth is tropical (hot all year round with some monsoon at the end of the year).

Melbourne - Great during summer but expect to wear warm thermal during winter (but Torquay beach is surfable all year round :-)).

Sydney - Average warm temperature (not too hot not too cold).

Hope this helps :)|||If you want warm Temps anywhere from the Sunshine coast to Sydney.Colder south coast NSW and around Victoria. Me.I would get a camper and do a big tour.|||torquay - bells beach|||surfing holiday is an ultimate idea to spend the weekends .I will suggest you to take help of http://sightseeing.travour.com/sightseeing-in-australia/|||Surfing with the Billabong Brand

Billabong set its roots in Queensland. It was founded in 1973, by Rena and Gordon Merchant. The company started out as a manufacturer of board shorts and slowly expanded its operations. In 1981, the company decided to become an aggressive player in the surf apparel market by branching out to an international crowd. At first, it expanded its business to include New Zealand and the United States, then to South Africa, Japan and finally to Europe. Once the ball was set in motion it was only a matter of time before it became a global effort. As the brand gained exposure and popularity the company decided to branch into other sports related apparel markets. They started experimenting with different lines of sports packages such as snowboarding and skateboarding.

What time is best to go surfing at dania beach,fl?

I live in hollywood beach and dania beach i heard is a surfing beach so i was asking is there a certain time or tide thats good to surf there or is ft lauderdale or hollywood beach better?(i have a 7,4ft and a shortboard)which better?|||I would say that winter is the best suring time of the year. I know the none of us want to hear that but it's true. You're board sounds great.|||Other than right now being an exception... maybe... The surfing there is a waste of time. The bottom is flat and goes for at least a quarter mile off the shore with the depth being no less then 4-5 ft. I have only seen the surf go over 2 ft a handful of times and it always turned out to be a complete blow over every time. Maybe because it is due to the Bahamas being right there, the only thing you will get are lousy wind swells; none the less from your choice it would be the 7'4", but I wouldn't bother surfing here; so in my opinion I wouldn't choose anything.

My uncle has a place in Hallandale being only a few hours away I love to come here and visit very frequently. Usually surf in Cocoa and New Smyrna.

What size waves are good for surfing?

I'm wondering, what are the smallest and largest surfable waves. Specifically I'm working on a short story, and wondering if it's reasonable to state that a 10 year old who has been surfing for 4 years can surf 10 to 15 foot waves. Also what are the biggest waves an adult expert surfer might go looking for? On the other end, in general, what's the smallest surfable wave height?|||I have ridden waves that are only about calf high on a longboard (the best way to 'measure' waves is in comparison to body parts. Nobody brings a ruler out there with them.) I have surfed waves that are close to double overhead, but not all that often. And, at my age, I don't ever expect to ride them that big again. Chest to head high can be a really exciting and enjoyable ride. Of course, some folks are big time "big wave" riders, and they would be bored on head high waves. The real big wave surfers (the tow-in guys), like Laird Hamilton, have ridden waves reputed to be a hundred feet high.

I have five grand children and four surf regularly. My nine year old grandson could never handle a 10-15 foot wave. I have watched some of my friends start their kids surfing at age 5 or 6, and by ten, they couldn't have handled a wave that big either. Don't forget, riding a wave is one thing, but being able to paddle out through the break is another. You don't see all the work that goes into paddling out in surfing movies. In really big days with strong currents, it can take twenty minutes to get outside. A little child, no matter how good a swimmer, could never do it.

Just a bit of advice. If you are going to write a short story about surfing. Don't waste your time on Yahoo. Go down to the beach and rap with the real surfers there. You will learn a whole lot more than you will here. I have been surfing for 44 years, and foud that real surfing information is gathered on the beach or in surf shops.|||depends what kind of board it is, but with a thick longboard or SUP, you can catch 1-2ft waves.

and for a beyond experienced adult id say around 8ft. but im no expert..

but the biggest known surfed wave was around 45-50ft

hope this helps :]|||10

What happen when security guards grab you after crowd surfing?

I'm going to Warped Tour this summer in Houston and I've been watching a lot of videos of people crowd surfing but when they get to the front of the crowd, the security guards grab them. Sometimes they take them somewhere. Where do they take them? Do they send them out? Can you get back into the crowd or do they ban you from the venue? I want to try it when I go to Warped Tour!|||When I went crowd surfing the security would just grab me, like helping me basically and made me go out through the side of the crowd.

After they get you down they just basically escort you out of the front, not sure if that makes sense? You could either just go back in the crowd or just stand off to the side.

You don't get banned or anything. It's just theres a gate at the front and no one besides security should be there. Soo yeah they just have you stand off to the side if you want or you could just try to get back in the crowd. :p|||You have to go to the back of the crowd.

It's where they tell you to go, but they point cause it's too loud for them to be heard.|||they just push u out of the way cuz ur 2 close and tell u 2 stop the dont really take u anywhere

Teaching english or surfing in the canary islands or somewhere like that?

I was wondering if anyone knows any information about teaching surfing or english in the canary islands or anywhere really i guess. Or even being a camp counselor somewhere such as the canary islands. What you need to do to sign up or what not. Or if anyone knows of any websites. Thanks! |||Canary Islands are a bit small; I think you'd have to be there to find a job.

But how about Australia? If you're qualified you can teach English there and the surf is some of the best in the world!|||canary islands are in Africa, in the coast of Mauritania

Is a rash guard really necessary to wear while surfing?

I've never gotten rashes from swimming in saltwater. Never. So I don't understand the point of it. I don't really care about cold weather either, I can pretty much handle both extremes pretty well. Is it ok to go surfing without a rash guard on?|||No.

However it will protect you from the sun and getting burnt, from some injury should you come into contact with the beach when coming off your board. It also protects from wind burn and any bits of Jelly fish sting in the water.|||Yeah bro.

How many hours surfing do you get on a 10GB mobile broadband package?

I'm interested in getting mobile broadband, and i wouldn't be interested in downloading or anything, just surfing the internet. How many hours do you get a day for 10GB a month??|||Loads of Time!!!

If you have a data tarif (10Gb in this case) that's just what you get - 10Gb of data to download however you like!

Downloading Movies will quickly use up your available quota of data..... Music files less so.... Normal Web Pages use very little data!

This means you would be able to Surf for many hours!.... I used to have 3Gb package and some months didn't use all of it!!!

Hope this Helps!

`|||back when i was a closet nerd i played Everquest...and did so 24/7/30 days a month..with some downloading of a dozen songs or so too....Never went over 1.1 GB

i mean my cpu was on playing even when i slept it was running Everquest and never got over 1.1 GB in a month.

if you don't know EQ was like WoW is now.|||Hi Roxanne,

You can get about 18 hours of surfing for 1GB of data. So that's a lot. We also found Skype calling uses about .85MB a minute!

Cheers,

Liz|||If you not going to download any movies or music then 10GB will take many many months if you just visiting webpages. Difficult to put it into hours but it'll be over a 1000

How private really is my surfing history?

You read all the time about how suspects have their web history made public via the police. While not a criminal, how secure is my surfing information at my server? Can my boss call up the server and get my surfing information?|||You can change your privacy options. In FF, Tools %26gt; Options %26gt; Privacy and uncheck "Keep history". It's similar in IE, but I'd have to open it to see exactly where it is. If you don't save history it isn't saved elsewhere on your computer. Your company could monitor web traffic, however, before it ever gets to your computer. If it's a large company, there's a good chance they do.|||your employers policy can and do allow them to surf your PC, your email and your browsing history. You have no control over that.

It is not a good idea to surf at work. Wait until you get home to do your surfing.

I had a job where I was surfing my blog site during my breaks. Within 2 weeks of starting the job, I found that the company had blocked my access to my blog site so I could not blog from work. I had to wait until I got home.|||ALL surfing history is accessable by the police. Depending on your boss's position at work, he may be able to call up your web-history if you use the company's internet connection..

Why does everyone think there is an age limit to surfing?

Why does everyone keep asking if they are to old to surf. I keep seeing so many question "can i learn to surf at __ years old", where do they come up with the thought that there is an age limit to surfing or learning to surf? I just dont get where they are coming from, or getting their info.|||To KiwiBubb: Well for someone who only wats to surf to compete, you will never get good at it, because you don't understand the sport.

For everyone else there is no age limit. My grandchildren have all started getting ready to surf, swimming and playing in the ocean, boogie boarding and getting to feel at home with the waves at at 4 or 5. But, they didn't start surfing for real until about 7 or 8. My son started surfing at 11 or 12, but he was really at home in the ocean by then. My son-in-law, an accomplished sailboarder, started surfing at 25. My neighbor started on her 50th birthday, and I am nearly 60, and I have been surfing since I was 14.

I think a lot of people get the impression that there is some sort of "age limit" because athletes who excel many competitive sports start at a young age, swimming, figure skating etc. But, those are sports that exist almost solely in a the competitive world. While I enjoy watching really great surfers in contests, I am not all that interested in competitive surfing. The last contest I rode in was in 1970. And I have friends who surf far better than almost anyone I have ever seen in a contest, and they have never been in one, ever.

I guess they are pool swimmers or soccer players hwho started at age 3 and think if you haven't been weaned on the sport, you'll never get to the "money shots" in competition. But, that is just not what surfing is about.|||yeah i know what you mean aye?

But i think it's a matter of people thinking they may not be able to pick up the skills as fast as they'd like to, or they're wondering whether they'll be able to make it pro or not.

I know one bloke who's probably about mid-30's, he's been trying to learn how to surf for about 3-4 years, and i don't mean to be cruel but he's absolutely shocking, i mean like this bloke can't even stand up!

But yeah mate i totally know where you're coming from, so here's a message for all you's out there who think it's too late for you to learn how to surf. IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!!!!!!

have a peace week mate :)

jesse xo|||Its human nature to doubt and stop yourself doing something thats potentially gonna cause hurt. As much as they want to try surfing, alota people see it as too crazy and hard for them. therefore they find ways to back out of it. If only people didnt give a crap about anything and gave it a go, theyd achieve anything in life!|||I asked the same question about how old you have to be to surf. I know there is no age limit but I personally wanted to know if I could ever compete if I started at _ age....Everyone knows you can surf at any age, but it may be for different reasons.

What length of board shorts are best for surfing?

I'm going to take up surfing, and I'm shopping for the appropriate gear. Are board shorts that are slightly above the knee the only acceptable length, or are short shorts okay too?|||I surf in my bathing suit,Girls don't need board shorts...................|||Technically it would be best to surf in the nude. I don't know why board shorts would be the only acceptable style to surf in.|||Wear what ever is the most comfortable. That's probably the most important thing to do. I have a couple different pairs of board shorts and they all chafe somewhere if I surf too long (3+ hours). I even have a pair of the Hurley Phantom 100s, they are awesome and feel like your wearing absolutely nothing but then again it feels like wearing nothing when your butt cheeks are rubbing against the wax on the board also, which is not the most comfortable thing.

What are the different types of waves for surfing?

I have to make a powerpoint and i am finding difficulties finding information on the different types of surfing waves. =[ can you help?|||it depends where you go..you can get reef breaks which is when waves break over reefs also known as "dry reef" which is usually really sharp and if you stack then you usually hit the reef or rocks. also there are sand bars etc.. but diffferent waves include wedges which is when two waves colide going sideways which send a big triangle of water into the air which is fun to get air off. also there are barrels which is where the wave barrels in a cylinder type shape.. also close outs which barrel and and then close out so there is no way of escaping and you usually eat it. hope this helps..if not if you type it into youtube you might get a better answer.|||Every wave is different, so it's hard to say.

First thing to say is waves go left or right, or they a-frame (go both ways...hah).

Waves can vary in size and length, aswell as steepness. No wave is alike.

Some waves just crumble, others have powerful and heavy barrels.

Waves that crumble can vary dramatically, waves that barrel can vary dramatically. Barreling waves can be top-to-bottom, but waves that barrel don't necessarily go top-to-bottom.|||someone already listed the types of breaks up there ie reef, point, beach etc..but if you literally want some different waves types they are: crumbly, top to bottom, and a-frame. crumbly waves dont have any sort of tube. they seem to crumble as they break. these are good for beginners examples are huntington beach, malibu, and waikiki..top to bottom waves break, like the name insisits, from top to bottom. these waves have large tubes and are walled out.. examples are pipeline, mavericks, and teahupoo..a-frames break at their peak in both directions. .they can crumble or go top to bottom..examples are monster munch and rancho santana|||The water ones, and then the ones where you see your friend on the beach and wave to them.

Answer mine please? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>|||beach break, reef break, point break, spilling wave, surging wave, that's all i got.

Wanna go surfing in california for four days, dont have anything what would be the cheapest way to go?

me and four other guys are planning on going to california for four days and we have never been surfing before so we want to try it out while we are there. we are going down in a van and plan to sleep in it at night, would it be cheaper to buy a board if we are going to use it for four days or would it be cheaper to rent it, where should we go since we are beginners and where should we park our van to sleep?|||Big Sur, other parts of Monterey County, Santa Cruz County, all have surfing spots plus board rental/surfing lesson places up and down the coast.

And Big Sur offers some lovely campgrounds that aren't expensive, which would add to the fun and keep costs down. (See http://www.discovernortherncalifornia.co鈥?/a> for more info)|||i live in newport beach ca and you cant really rent boards around here, dana point is ur best bet and by far u should rent four boards, good ones can cost 500-1000 dollars. rent long boards otherwise you will never even stand up. at dana point you can sleep in the parking lot, there are bonfire pits too. have fun, four days will definately not be enough time to learn how to really surf. iv been doing it since i was 5 and im 17 now. gl|||you suck at life|||You may want to take a surfing class just to learn the basic, which includes board rentals. You can always find a cheap motel so you don't have to sleep in a van. I know it may sound cool, but the streets of L.A. can be unforgiving if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Play it safe and smart, and you'll have a good time.|||Jaxon had some good ideas: Dana Point is a good place. I also recommend rentals and lessons:

OC Surf n Sport Surf Shop - www.ocsurfsport.com

34255 Pacific Coast Highway, Unit 112, Dana Point - (949) 842-2136

However, if you park your van around the beach at Dana Point, you will most certainly be rousted by local cops or state park rangers. They take a very dim view of people who try to camp on the street. However, you are in luck. Go to www.reserveamerica.com and make a reservation at Doheney State Beach, which is right there at Dana Point. You can park there, and even pitch a tent, have a campfire, and take warm showers (bring quarters).

What much would it cost to get into surfing as a hobbie?

I need to know the cheapest it would cost to get into surfing and I don't need the best of any thing I just need what it takes to get stared.|||Lessons are the only sensible way to start surfing, either from a professional instructor, or surfing family or friends who are experienced surfers. There are way too many dangerous people in the water now, who THINK they can surf. Please don't join their ranks. The VERY LAST THING the rest of us experienced surfers want is people to take silly on-line advice, and go down to the beach, grab a surfboard, and go out and get in our way.

Most people start out best on long boards, but I have seen plenty of surfers start begin with a short board and master it in no time. It just tends to be more difficult. The bottom line is there are NO RULES as to what kind of surfboard you learn on. Certainly a longboard usually is more user friendly. There are also good internediate length boards to learn on, funshapes, mini-mals and some hybrids. That is why instructors use long boards or fun boards (or even softtops).

THE REAL BOTTOM LINE IS: Go to a Surf Shop, not a computer. I have been surfing since 1966 and I get my surfboard advice at good local shops at the places where I surf. The pros there can give you the right answers!!

Most professional instructors will rent you a board to learn on. Beginners shouldn't even think about buying a board until they master the basics, and decide they really want to keep on surfing.

Lessons can cost anywhere for $75. to $100. for half day to $100. to $200. for full day, for private lessons, and about half that for group lessons, and almost all include board and wetsuit rental. If you decide you like surfing, and want to keep on doing it, you can buy a nice used board for anywhere from $250.00 to $500.00, depending on what you decide is right for you. Just please, avoid popouts and junk made in far eastern sweatshops.

Coming from Atlanta, your best bet will be for you to head east to South Carolina, or south to Florida for some decent surfing spots. The Georgia coast tends to be pretty 'surf-less'. There are a couple great surf towns in both states, with great shops and good instruction.

And, I know there are lots of nice kids who want to share information with you on line. But don't take the advice from youngsters, who may know even less than you do about surfing, a surfboard is a big investment. I am sure you are mature enough to read through the BS that lots of people throw at you on line.

Anybody, on-line, who gives specific advice on what size board someone should buy is foolish. Anyone who takes that advice is more foolish.Good luck!

If your looking to just get started and see if surfing is for you. Don't buy anything yet. Hit the beaches this summer and try body surfing. Only thing you need is board shorts nice and cheap. If you liked being in the ocean for hours on end and got into body surfing. Then start looking for some used gear, board only. Don't cheap out on a wet suit, there is a lot of difference between a $100.00 3/4mm and a $250.00 3/4 mm suit. Your hundred dollar suit will be replaced and tossed to the side very fast. Go to your local shop and talk with them, you might be able to set up a board exchange deal. Once you have out grown your starter board you can exchange it for something more advanced, for a small fee of course. Have fun and remember, GETWET.|||When i started.. i bought a used 6'7'' off of ebay and a shortie, during december.

dont go take lessons and buy shiny new boards.. it is a sport many people give up on|||Well if you want to surf right now you will need a wetsuit you can pick one up for around $130 buy a board and get in the water. watch what other people do and watch videos. buy a used board untill you know what kind you want short, long, phish, etc... or borrow boards .

Is the VA Beach boardwalk area just for surfing?

Someone told me that you can't get in the water where the boardwalk is because it's just a designated surfing area. Is this true? I'm on vacation to VA Beach, and we were planning on going to the boardwalk today, but some of the younger kids in our group would like to play on the beach/in the ocean.|||Ha! That's ridiculous. The surfers would love it. Actually 90% of all the surfing takes place down at the inlet at the beginning of the boardwalk. They also surf on the other side of the inlet. The first block or so of the boardwalk, there are about 42, is the only area reserved for surfing. So come own out and have a good time. Somebody doesn't know what they are talking about or are intentionally trying to steer you wrong.

How do you pull into a barrel when surfing?

I have been surfing now for about 6 years and comfortable in head high waves however am yet to get barrelled. I was wondering how easy it is to pull in to the green room and any tips when you are inside!!|||Technical surfing questions usually get butchered in this site, because its hard to verbalize the steps necessary to accomplish a given maneuver.

First of all, you need a barrel. getting really tubed depends as much on the wave as it does on the surfer. If you get the right conditions, you have to slow down and make a clean line across the face of the wave. That's easier riding forward than it is riding backside, but it can be done either way. Slowing down enough, and staying far enough away from the shoulder are key. However, there is no way I can TELL you how to do that. You have to be in the water and feeling it for yourself.|||Tom, you have been surfing for 6 years and your asking for tips to get barrelled. Wow. Mate, I think you should have been shacked by now or your not surfing the right waves.

Watch other people in the line up or dvd's - real close. Watch it in slow motion, rewind and watch it again, watch the take off and see how fast they are paddling for the wave, watch their feet positioning, look at their rail positioning, see if they drag their hand to slow down, watch if they take off straight into the pit or if they bottom turn and stall and when your getting in there keep your eye's as open as you can to negotiate a way out.

Barrells can be dangerous at any size so be carefull. Get used to getting smashed because a lot of barrells (unless surfing perfection) will out race you or close out - with you inside. Good barrells break in shallow water so make sure your well away from your board if you don't make it (and watch the reef too!!!)

A lot of variables to keep in mind. Many more than I've said. Watch, learn %26amp; do.|||dropping into a barrel is very difficult, so often people get barreled by pulling into one. Pulling into a barrel involve stalling your speed either by turning, putting your hand in the wave or doing a wheelie/manual (sorry I don't know a better term).

Pulling in at just the right time involves great skill in "reading the wave". If you watch videos of Kelly Slater in France, you see that he is amazing at this. At just the right time, he will draw out a bottom turn and go right into a hollow spot. It takes great skill and experience to get to the level where you can just pull in like Kelly.

For staying in the barrel, you can see in videos of Damien Hobgood in Tahiti stalling with his hand in the wave. Damien has a unique way of shifting his weight in the barrel from his front to back foot to pump for speed. Also you may notice that good barrel riders pump with their ankles to maintain a steady position in a tight barrel while keeping and creating speed.

Ultimately, no one can tell you how to ride barrels, you have to just go out there and go for it. The hard part is finding the right conditions. Most perfect barrels are also very dangerous.|||once you do it, you're not gonna want to stop, its the best feeling in the world, better than sex. of course, you need to have good hollow waves, offshore winds. if the wave is decent, its not hard. you gotta make sure you know where you are on the wave pretty much the whole time. its hard to describe exactly how to do it. watch a bunch of surfing videos, it helps. go to surfline.com, they have tons of videos.

What are my options for bad vision while surfing?

I have quite poor vision and I'm a keen surfer. I usually wear my spare glasses while surfing but lost them last I went during a wipe out.

I've heard you can't wear contact lenses in water. I don't want to loose my remaining last pair of glasses either.

Laser surgery is not an option.

Any ideas? Thanks!|||Talk to your optometrist about what they call 'reverse K' lenses--they're hard contact lenses that you wear during the day for a few months, then after that you only have to wear them at night when you're sleeping and you take them out during the day, and they keep your vision at around 20/20 all day long. They change the shape of your eye for about 18-36 hours depending on the person such that your vision will be excellent for that period of time, but you do have to remember to put them in every night. I've had them for more than 10 years, and they're awesome, but when I got them my optometrist told me that they don't work for all candidates.

Beyond that, you could wear glasses with one of those bands to keep them from falling off, but even those bands probably wouldn't help you much if you're in heavy surf. You could also just do the disposable lenses in the water and discard them at the end of your session; I was a competitive swimmer for a bit and I wore contact lenses before I did the reverse K lenses at night and I never lost my contacts in the water. Or you could look into the goggles for your prescription--if you got the tinted prescription goggles, they would also shield your eyes from the harmful UV rays while you're surfing and they would protect your eyes from anything in the water.|||Well, you can wear contacts in the water. I have been surfing with my contacts. I will tell you that I also lost one once!! But your eyes will be dry and scratchy when you are finished, so it is best to bring your solution and case to take them out when you are finished surfing! I totally understand the problem since my eyesight is also terrible. So I have not found a fail-proof system yet, but keeping my contacts in seems to work for the most part!|||I've had about 1000 days on the water (both surf and whitewater) since I've gotten my contacts and I've lost a total of one. So I'd say the odds of losing one are probably not as bad as losing a pair of glasses. I do almost always close my eyes underwater to keep the contacts from coming out, but I've also gotten sprayed directly in the eyes and they've stayed in.

The one concern I can think of is the risk of an infection if you spend a lot of time in contaminated water (then again, you'd probably be concerned even if you didn't have contacts). I've never had a problem though, and my eyes actually feel better after a day on the water than after a day in front of the computer.

Have a look at the various types of disposable lenses. Some are one-day use. Others last 30 days (if you take them out and clean them each night-- highly recommended). This way, if you lose one, it's not a big expense.

If you don't want to go with contacts, you could look at various sport goggles, for instance these: http://www.murrays.com/barz/barz.html

How do I find out what websites my son has been surfing?

I understand that there is a way to find the history of what websites were surfed, not that I am paranoid or anything I am just a worried mother. There should be a folder called "cookies" in that folder there will be a list of files that correspond to websites visited.

Of course, depending on his level of IT awareness, he may have deleted these too.

Another suggestion would be to take advantage of Internet Explorers predictive text in the address bar.

What is the best place in Hawaii to improve my surfing?

I've been surfing for a few months on long boards, and I'm getting really bored. I want to learn to surf shortboards. Does surfing the Internet affect the download speed of torrents?

I am downloading music (royalty-free) from torrent sites and I was wondering if surfing the net causes it to slow down. I know about seeds and leechers and stuff, they don't change. My internet connection is stable as well.|||Royalty-free, sure! ;-)

Unless you're watching some HD streaming, the bandwidth used to surf is pretty small. A page like this one probably "weighs" about 30KB, which is downloaded only once. A torrent will used as much of your bandwidth as is left, but for instance I can download over 1MB/s. So that's more than 30 times as much data as this page EVERY second.

How to keep my feet warm when surfing?

Hi, i was surfing the other week and i had 5mm winter booties on my feet which should keep the cold away, but when i got out of the water i look and all my toes were completely white and i lost all feeling to them for about an hour. I was wondering if theres any way i can stop this from happening again as it keeps getitng colder.

Thanks.|||Your booties may be too leaky preventing the water in them from warming up. If you can identify the leaky areas you can seal them up with wetsuit repair goo. If your somewhere really cold maybe go to a 7 mm bootie.

Your feet will pretty much always turn white though. There just sitting there stewing in uncirculating water so they're gonna be good and wrinkly too.

A never fail cure is just to peep in your wetsuit. Don't go eewww, everybody does it and if they say they don't they're a liar.|||Your wetsuit makes a big difference in keeping your feet warm. Only some heat is lost through your feet, and with booties, you should be okay. If you are losing lots of heat overall (head, arms, legs, trunk) the blood the goes to your lower extremities is too cold to keep them warm. You need a thicker wetsuit, and maybe even a hood, not thicker booties. I rarely wear boots when the water is in the fifties, because my legs are warm. Sounds dumb, but it physiologically sound.|||Have to agree with John (above). A proper wetsuit, and you'll be warmer overall.

Couple of additions:

--Might sound stupid, but are the boots too tight (circulation problem) or too loose (too much water being exchanged)?

--Keep the water layer that's in there stable (or keep more water out) by using a velcro strip to tighten around the leg above the ankle but below the top (not too tight...).

--Keep the wetsuit over the boot, not the other way around, if that's what you're doing (yeah, I know, it's stupid, but just thought I'd mention it...).

If applicable: lay off anything that cuts down circulation prior to going (nicotine, caffeine, etc.).

I kitesurf in Lake Michigan often into December with a 5/4/3/ suit, 5mm Boots, 4mm Gloves and helmet.

Good Luck!

How do viruses attack your computer even when you're not surfing a dangerous website?

Lately, my internet security system has been telling me that critical, high risk attacks have been blocked. It happens about once a day. I thought that viruses only attacked your computer when you were surfing untrustworthy websites, but I haven't been on any sketchy sites recently. How do viruses attack your computer when you aren't going on any out-of-the-ordinary websites? How can I prevent viruses from targeting my computer from this point on? Thanks!|||You could have downloaded something which installed itself and then waited to do something. Some virus' are created like time bombs. They wait for a specific date and time and then attack the computer. There are also virus' called a "back door," which literally means that it installs itself quietly and unobtrusively and then opens a port thru the firewall (that is why it is called a back door) and then silently communicates with an external source who steals your private information without you knowing it. It is also possible that you installed something from a floppy disk, CD or DVD that had a virus on it.

So what you need to do is make sure that you have your firewall set properly. You also need to get into Safe Mode and run not only virus scans but also malware scans. A couple of good antimalware freebees are Antimalwarebytes and Superantispyware. It's best to install these programs, update their definition tables and then run them in Safe Mode.|||Computers have many "access ports" and your programs use separate ports to access the internet. Hackers know how to access these ports anytime your connected to the web. Like going to suggested websites for free help and upload things via activeX controls. Some of your programs may access the internet even if you don't want them to. Your best bet is to get a firewall to "hide" your open ports to hackers and disable activeX. Firefox also has a script blocker for their browser. Norton's anti-virus will ask you if you want a program to access the internet.|||Your AV is probably detecting tracking cookies, Good AV programs will block tracking cookies when they see them and most all sites have them now. They just want to see what sites people are going to. A cookie is not really a virus but AV programs identify them as shuch.

OH what's the other guy talking about? "Best place to get a job". I think he may just want people to go to that site and get a virus or traching cookies.

How can ISP understands the difference between downloading and surfing?

Recently I figured out that when I'm surfing the net (with Firefox), my internet speed is ~150KB, but when I want to download a file (with IDM), It's exactly 63KB.

Stand up paddle surfing question for people who actually do it?

Thanks for taking time to read this. I'm on a tight budget and about to take up stand up paddle surfing. Is it ok to buy a 10 foot foam soft top (the brand's name is "Surface") and I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with that beginner surfboard brand. I'm 190 pounds. Will it be enough to surf well.|||im not the best sup'er in the world, actually i just got into it in april and love it. i would say that it would probably be a little hard to learn on, especially at your weight. since it is designed as a longboard it may be too narrow to give you the stability you want to have in an sup. it also probably doesnt have the float you would need to really be stable. if the shop your buying from lets you try to take it out on the water and just stand on it. youll want to stand in a prone position (both feet next to each other and facing forward) if it feels really stable under you then you may be able to get away with it. it seems at your weight that the board also may not be strong enough (the surface boards are pretty cheaply made). dont forget to factor in the price of a paddle (about $200 for a decent one). it sucks that its still so expensive to get into. try posting this question on a reputable stand up forum as people on those sites usually have a little more experience than i do. heres one that i read all the time that has some good information on it: http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.p鈥?/a>

ps- make sure to get a leash when you get the board, i didnt and have spent most of this afternoon fixing the nose of my board because it found the one rock on the shore

i just thought of one more thing, a better cheap option may be a used beginners windsurf board. they are floaty enough and stable enough to stand on. im not sure where exactly to pick one up or the cost, but it should be less than a new sup and be easier to learn on than a longboard designed for normal surfing.|||I have seen a few 10' "surface' boards at a kayak rental store, but I have to admit I have never seen one in the water. For that matter, I have only seen a handful stand up surfers at all. For what it's worth, the Surface boards for sale and rent looked to as good a quality as you would find in any softop. I am around 220, and I would feel comfortable on it. It looked nice and fat (3" + blank, and real wide). If the price is right try it. Nobody laughs at anybody standing up anyhow, so I'm sure the softop won't draw any unnecessary ridicule from the less mature crowd.|||thats a good size for an allround, may be a little harder to get into it but once you got it you wont have to trade it in for a shorter one for a while, plus you can get away with using as a reg surfboard too!

SUP boarding in the ocean is a very good workout. And if you choose to surf with it, all that much more fun. You have the luxury of a paddle and also that you are already standing, so it takes some of the challenge out of regular surfing to some extent.

Ummmm aside from that, you can definitely windsurf, kite surf, kayak, body board, knee board... but I can't help thinking in terms of "surfing" the waves, it's just too much fun not to recommend in some way.

How do I get my coworker to do THEIR work and STOP surfing the internet?

Over the past few weeks I have had to take on more and more work due to my coworkers lack of productivity. He is spending more and more time emailing and surfing dating sites/networking sites (he is single) and not doing the work he is assigned to do. It is REALLY starting to piss me off. I work in a very small branch office so reporting him to the supervisor would be obvious.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!|||You have to talk to him before oyu go to your supervisor.

The discovery has to be a surprise, so they can find all this info on his computer, so be stealthy. go to whomever you can trust, preferable the human resources dept, as they have to, by law, look into the situation, do something about and not give out that it was you. How do I set my Utorrent client to speed up my internet surfing?

My internet becomes very slow when I put on a couple of downloads on Utorrent..

How do i change that?

Can I change something in preferences to make my internet surfing more enjoyable?|||If you limit your upload in uTorrent to 80% of your overall upload capacity, then you should have no issues surfing. This article on setting uTorrent up for best speeds (limiting upload also helps download speed in uTorrent) has more info and links to help:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/鈥?/a>|||Within uTorrent, go to the 'Options' menu, then 'Preferences' and click 'Scheduler'. This will allow you to control when the torrents are downloading: set the schedule to 'off' when you're working and for full speed at night, then just leave your PC on to do the download. This also lets you specify how much bandwidth you want it to use at restricted times of day when you're using the PC.

Let it work overnight and when you wake up your downloads should be done - your internet performance doesn't suffer when you need it. As an added bonus, many internet service providers don't coun't the quiet night-time hours in your quota so you are less likely to hit usage caps.

How long does it take to pick up the basics of surfing?

I've wanted to try it for a while now, and my dad has booked a lesson for me.

I'm a snowboarder, and it took me about a day and a half to learn bog standard basics on that, and i understand that surfing is harder?

I'd just like to know how long it took other so I can work out roughly how much money I need to save for lessons if i enjoy it (:

thanks!|||You don't need to spend $$ to learn how to surf. $$ for equipment, yes. Buy some used gear, once you get better and perfect your style you can spend some more $$ on better gear more suited to you.

Learning means going out......a lot. You should go out as many times a week as possible. Take a pummeling just like everyone else has, a lot. And enjoy that pummeling. Soon there will be less pummeling and more surfing. Perseverance. Good luck and enjoy!|||long time my friend

|||If you are fairly athletic and normally coordinated, you can get the bare minimum of basics down in a couple lessons. However, you have to remember that surfing is an ocean sport. before you decide to surf, decide to know and understand the ocean. Learn to be at home with its currents, rips, undertows and sometimes BIG waves. The original surfers were watermen (and women, both men and women surfed, but certain waves were reserved for royalty). I don't just mean being good at swimming in a pool, the ocean can be very unforgiving. I have seen lots of really good pool swimmers have to get rescued. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don't want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z2snsw0A_cM

Remember, you don't have to paddle up the mountain to go snowboarding. When you fall off a snowboard, you don't have to swim or deal with big waves crashing down on you. So, you not only have to have a fair grasp on the basics of surfing, but you have to be good enough in the ocean not to be a danger to yourself or other surfers.

I have been surfing for 42 years. In the old days, there was no such thing as 'lessons', but even with help from my pals, it took me almost all summer to get 'decent' and I wouldn't say that I reached the 'good' level until my second summer.|||well after a couple of lessons, I'm sure you get the basics after a couple of lessons.

but to be honest, I don't think lessons are required. If you have enough potential, then I'm sure you'd be able to pick up this sport in about a week (if you surf everyday), without lessons.|||Depends on what you mean by basics... If you have a big enough board, then it shouldn't take long (maybe a couple attempts) for you to stand up on white wash. But it takes a lot more practice for you to go beyond just riding the white wash straight to shore. Take one or two lessons to get the basics down in your head, and then rent/buy a longboard and practice practice practice. Good luck!|||Short answer? It takes way longer than you think. Don't sweat saving up for lessons if you're already signed up for one (should be all you need to teach the the basics). Save up for a board and put in your time in the water. Make friends with some surfers so you have someone to help push you to improve.|||i used to give lessons out of the surf shop i worked at. it usually took 2 good lessons to get the VERY basics down. pretty much, like surfammo says, the rest is up to you.

remember this though. if you get frustrated with it at first, you HAVE to give it a chance.|||After one or two lessons learning the basics, you should be able to pick it up on your own. The rest is up to you; lots of time in the water practicing and talking with other surfers. But be patient with yourself, it takes a while to get pretty good.|||You will only need a few lessons after that it is just trial and error once you learn the basics.

PS. Make sure you have fun.

He is competitive surfer with a great deal of skill, and his reputation is growing by leaps and bounds. I can't say I know him, but I have seen him surf, and he is amazing. A local paper wrote a little article about him, and asked him how he got so good, riding in our inconsistent east coast waves. You know what I mean, three days flat, two days overhead, two weeks flat, one day head high and on and on.... His answer was really pretty simple. He surfed EVERY DAY. No matter how good or bad it was, he went out with the same board and a forced himself to get the most out of every session. Now, if you surf where there are usually lousy waves, I'm sure that even on some of the worst days, there are guys who are getting the absolute most possible out of those crappy waves. I am an international student in UCI.

I am going to finish my course this month and I will leave here in March.

Before I leave here, I want to learn surfing.

But I worry about if I can do that even in winter or not.

Please give me the advice about what I shoud do.|||You have plenty of options for lessons right close in Huntington Beach all year long. This time of year is good because the classes are small. If you want a private lesson that will work as well. Just show up and the school will provide you with everything you need.

I recommend using a National Surf Schools and Instructors Association accredited school or at the least a certified instructor. There are many around for you to select from. Go on their web site and just email when your are ready. If you can't afford a lesson from a pro-instructor, try the surf club at your school. They have programs for beginners as well.

You shouldn't need more that a couple of lessons spread apart to get everything you need from board safety to etiquette.|||Some surf schools off of google http://www.google.com/search?q=orange+co鈥?/a>

Or just find your closest surf shop and ask them. They will either provide lessons or know who will. Your only other option would be to find some friends who surf and have them take you out. That would probably be the most fun if you can only go once. The upside to a surf lessons is they provide you with all the gear and most places guarantee to have you standing on your first lesson, although "standing" is a pretty loose definition.

How much does it cost to get all the required surfing gear?

I was wondering what an estimated cost would be for someone who wants to get into surfing and needs all the gear.|||All you're really gonna need is a board, some board shorts, a leash if your just starting and some wax.

My advice would be to find a local surf shop and not a big board house like a Ron Jons or something of the sort, cause the local shops are always willing to help you out.

But, for a beginners board, I'd say anywhere between $175 - $250

A leash will run you about $12-15

And you can just use normal swim trunks until you need board shorts, they can run you from $30-60|||That's the best thing about surfing...all you need is the board and you are done!

If your just learning you can get a foam board for about $100. But most used boards run in the $200-400 range and new boards can be about $600+

Most surfboards come with a leash and fins but a leash is only about $20

And that is all you need!

Besides wax every now and then which is a dollar or two and if you love it enough to surf into the colder weather, wetsuits run about $100-$200|||If you are learning, the best board would be a longboard. These are around $700+ new and around $400+ second hand. Additionally you will need a leg rope which is around $25 - $40, but some boards may come with these on purchase. You will then need wax which is around $5. Personal preference will then depict what surfing attire you want to use. Whether you want to wear board shorts, rash vest, wetsuit. generally a cheap wetsuit is around $150 but can range up to $600.|||Right now, in the UK, you will need:

Board: 拢100-300

Wax: 拢3

Leash: 拢20

Wetsuit: 拢100-拢300 (depends how much you feel the cold)

Thermal Rash Vest: 拢30-拢40 (depending on qualilty of your wetsuit)

Gloves: 拢25

Boots: 拢25

Hood: 拢30

One surf lesson to get you started: 拢25

Total:拢 358 - 拢758

Totally worth it, get wet!!|||All you need is a second hand surfboard, you can pick them up for around $150.00

some wax, palmers is $3.50 and a leg rope which costs $30.00

Total $183.50|||beginner board - $100-$300

wetsuit - $200

wax - $1

experience - priceless|||all you really need is a board, and you can find used ones for really cheap on craigslist. i saw some decent boards on there for under $100 before.|||Wet suit will run about 300. The board.. a ling board, will run about 1000. Total 1300.

How to improve at surfing when you dont live near a beach?

i love the beach and everything about it. unfortunately i don't love by one. i plan to move to a beach someday. so anyways how can i improve my surfing when i'm not at the beach?|||The most essential part of surfing is the balance part. If you can't balance then you can't surf. It's as simple as that.

The best way to improve your balance on a surfboard is probably by buying an indo board. These can range from 100-500 dollars. Try buying one on RonJon.com or some other website based on surfing such as MagicSeaweed.com.

Another great way to improve balance is by doing yoga. Go to your local store such as Walmart or Target and pick up a Yoga Instructional video and do the exercises 3 to 4 times a week. This really helps you keep your center of balance and with in turn help you stay on the board.

Another thing you should work on it shoulder strength for paddling. You can swim in a pool, do pull ups, or push ups to increase upper body strength.

Hope I helped :)|||turn on your bathtub water then try to stand on one of the shampoo bottles and if you want to get really good then lube up the bottle|||first do freestyle swimming in a pool for paddling and then skateboarding for when u stand up ont eh board

How much do wetsuits make a difference in cold water surfing?

I want to go surfing in Lake Ontario, but the water is very cold. So I wanted to know, if I wore a wetsuit how much of a difference would it make? Like maybe make 55 degrees water fell like 80 or something like that?

Please answer ASAP, and thank you!|||The 1st answer describing how suits works is unfortunately incorrect. I know I sold them for a high end manufacturer. The idea is to keep out as much water as possible, and the little bit that does get in will warm up. However, as one response said, it will "flush in AND out AND back in again", not allowing the water to warm up.

I'd go with a 2mm suit at least, and get some booties and a hood. It's a little less comfortable, but the respondents who asked you to be careful b/c of the possibility of hypothermia are quite correct.

Try www.nrsweb.com for wetsuits and other kayaking gear

Be safe and enjoy!|||Akiva,

Wetsuits make a big difference in cold water surfing. Good wetsuits that fit well make an even greater difference. As for the water temps, no wetsuit will ever make 55 degree water FEEL LIKE 80 degree water. The water will still feel frigid, you just won't have to feel it very often because you're skin won't be exposed. As the other post mentioned, your body will warm the water in the suit (as long as it fits properly and the water isn't flowing in and out).

I'd go with a 4/3 and booties.

Have fun surfing in Lake Ontario. You're hard core!!!|||This article is the best information I have ever found on wetsuit needs for various water temps. At 55 degrees you are in definite danger of drowning due to cold water immersion loss of muscle control. Read this, please, and be safe:

http://www.wetsuitmegastore.com/wetsuit/鈥?/a>

I have a 3/4 mm surfing full wetsuit and being in 55 degree water in just that is still a shock. The only way to make 55 degree water feel like 80 degrees is with a heavier suit plus hood and booties. OR a drysuit with thermal layer underneath. That 2/3 suit the other answer suggested may somewhat increase your survival but not your comfort -- that is a spring suit wieght best suited for water above 65 degrees (I know because I also have a 2/3 springsuit).

You need warmer coverage when you are surfing or kayaking rather than scuba diving because of the heat loss from being up in the wind too.|||reading through the other answer yes a wet suit would keep you warmer than nude "as you said a difference to what" although when surfing you will have a lot of movement and the water will change as you surf so therefore you may still be cold as the water flushes through the suit. also the wind will cool the water off as they are not wind proof.|||Without a wetsuit you risk hypothermia, and potentially freezing up, being unable to move, and you'll die. Or you get cold, but not stupid, and come out of the water and warm up before anythign serious happens.

Cold jacks up your blood pressure which is really bad for your hearts arteries. So two new ways to keep from living a long enjoyable life.

GET A WETSUIT ! Get it tailored just right for you so you don't have cold water flowing in and out, which will just keep you cold, not warm.|||A wet suit fills with water and then your body keeps the water warm, so you have a thin layer of body temperature water surrounding your body is how a wet suit works. Any 2/3 (thin part is 2mm, thick is 3mm) should be fine for 55 degree water and feel very comfortable to float in. Remember booties and gloves!

How can I stop armpit chafing when surfing?

I wear a wetsuit when I go surfing, and I surf pretty much every day. However, since the past couple of days, my armpits have been chafing from paddling. I think that it's the wetsuit rubbing against the skin of my armpit. It's gotten to the point where it's very painful to apply deodorant or paddle. I've tried wearing a rash guard beneath my wetsuit, but that didn't help.|||you can probably stick on some fabric to the inside of the wetsuit which should cover the part which is irritating, which is probably a seam, which should at least lessen the irritation.

if its still uncomfortable then try a thicker rash vest, make sure that the wetsuit/rash vest are not bunching up at the joint as that can irritate.|||Simply apply vaseline to the area that gets the rash before you put your suit on. Staying out of the inside where the water is all churned up with sand will help also.|||Sorry that happens to you, but go to a doctor he or she can help you out. Plus, don't put this all over the internet, well no answer just advice.|||Sometimes in stores they sell lotions that help with chafing. I would say maybe get a thicker rash guard, but depending on how bad it is this may not help
