New type of pop up browser that shows ads related to the content I'm surfing?

I have been getting a pop up recently that is in a browser that is quite unfamiliar to me. Its got an icon of red green blue and some other colour and its really bugging me. It shows ads relative to the content that I'm surfing, and I think my cpu performance is getting very slow.

Any one know what it is and how to remove it?|||It sounds like you have a malware and adware infection on the computer. What pushes you to shore when you are surfing?

What pushes you to shore when you are surfing?

A.You are pushed by the wave

B. You are continuously falling downhill|||The wave is not technicaly moving. It's just the energy that is bouncing off the sea floor that is making the water go up... the water never moves anywhere but up and down. That is why when a wave is closer to shore... but not to close... that it is bigger than what it used to be. now to answer your question... it is b. you are continuousy falling downhill.|||the wave|||A the flow of the water near the surface move toward shore|||the waves

Have you been surfing Lombok and which surfing charter did you use?

I am looking for information about surfing and who to use in a surf charter. I hear Dreamweaver-Surf is the best. Any ideas?|||Forget the rest go with Dreamweaver mate, no outriggers means they plough the open ocean into the bays on the south-eastern coast of Lombok while the other boats wont go past super suck and yo yos down that channel. Surfing Lombok is unreal, less crowded than Bali. If you catch desert point (west coast) going off you wont be disappointed. Go check them out and have a ball!.|||There are a few boats that claim to surf Sth Lombok, but Dreamweaver is really the only one that does, we went with them last year and surfed with no crowds all week, the boat is really comfortable and the crew that run it are awesome The food was great too, their web is www.dreamweaver-surf.com

How does a tide clock watch help with surfing?

Ok, so I got this nifty new watch that tells me when high tide and low tide are, and where I am at in accordance to the tide.

Yes, I'm a NOOB when it comes to surfing. How does this watch help me?|||Around here (Charleston, SC), the best time to go surfing is when the tide is about half way on its way in from Low to High. However, that is just a general guideline. If there is no swell, then it really doesn't matter one way or the other. Find out the best tide condition for your break and that watch will come in handy when you know waves are up.|||it pretty much tells you when the wave are going to get destroyed.

What is a sponsor and how to you get a sponsor for the sport surfing?

I am wondering what a sponsor is and how you can get a sponsor. I want a sponsor for surfing. thanx for whoever answers.|||A sponsor is someone that basically pays you to promote their brand. They give you free gear (sunglasses, cloths, bikinis in your case, shorts, surfboards, etc.) to market.

Most sponsors help in the development of surfers by providing travel, boat trips, etc. to further their surf teams. Also, they want to get shots for surf magazines so they can promote their brands with their team riders.

As for how to get one.....start surfing!|||LanceEA has pretty much nailed it. There is a website for surfers lookign for sponsors www.surfspono.com worth a look.

Where is a good beach with moderate sized waves that is not Waikiki for surfing and board rental?

I'm ok at surfing, I can stand up and ride sideways, but not a big wave rider or exactly a shredder. I'll be on Oahu for a few days and am looking for a beach with some moderate sized clean sets where I can ideally get small tube ride at some point. Also would be nice if they have a board rental around with descent boards not the shitty heavy ones or foam crap.

Thanks!!!|||Aloha, right now some places on the north shore are running around 4' Hawaiian but I wont tell you any spots on that side the waves size can double in minutes and a 4' foot on the north has the power of a 5 or 6' on the west side, with more reef and current. Stay on the west side south is running small west is running 2 to 4' try Tracks in Nanakuli can be a Little ruff if you are an outsider with an attitude or you start snaking waves. Swabie land is good but it is a long paddle and you should go with some one in case you run in to trouble. White plains has a lot of people 2 to 3' waves and is safe but no barrels both Swabbies and White plans are in Kapolei. In Eva you have Howbush and Shark Country which are small this time of year but Worth the drive out just in case it's happening. Board rentals check any surf shop they all have a quiver of loaner boards mostly HIC or Island Classic with a few Surf Tecs in the mix.|||Some really good surfing spots are: Ali'i Beach Park, Chuns Reef, Kalama Beach, La'ie Beach Park.

If your just ok at surfing i suggest going to Kalama Beach because the shorebreak is not too unbearable and they are usually pretty easily to ride. All in all, i hope you have fun riding those waves!

Need to buy a new digital camera that will take great action photos for surfing?

I'd like something that can take quick snap photos, that's a digital camera good for action stuff (surfing, soccer, etc).

I'd liking something that could fit in my purse, and costs $400 or less.|||I would look at the Canon Powershot S5 IS. It's a very capable camera. It captures images fast enough to deal with you action requirements. It's an 8Mp camera which is more than most people ever need. The requirement that it fit in your purse is a little questionable with this camera, but, most that will fit in a purse aren't worth a darn for action shots anyway. They are just too slow to capture the image when everything is moving. Unless of course, you cut the image size and resolution to the point of not having a decent printable image. The S5 IS avoids that problem at a very reasonable price for the camera you are getting.

What can i do to prepare for surfing?

I am moving to san diego, and really want to get into surfing, cuz i snowboard so what should i do to get in shape for this sport?|||The best thing to do is swim.

If you have a surfboard, take it to your local body of water and paddle, paddle, and more paddle.

then u should get a cool looking surfboard, $500+

and listen to the pro|||Surfing is soooo much fun, OMG don' get me started. To get in shape for surfing you really need to work on your upper body in order to paddle out and get up on the board and what not. You also need to be a pretty good swimmer and learn to balance, which if you snowboard that shouldn't be much of a problem. I hope you give it a try! Surfing is the best thing since well I don't know what but its amazing so have fun!|||The 3 most important things you can do are 1) realize that for awhile youre gonna be a kook, but everyone is in the beginning. 2)Dont let your pride, spoil your ride.Slater had to start on ankle biters too, get wet and have fun.3) Get a used board, and get it from someone that knows what the hell they are talking about(your body size play THE factor),try a longboard,a hybrid, NO SHORTBOARDS,NO FISHES!!!!|||Brah take it from an experienced surfer....nothing. Stretch well and hit the waves. Dont think too much, everything you need to know, you'll learn in the water either on your own or from people you will meet in the lineup. Trust me.|||Do not buy an expensive board unless you know you like it. WOrk your arms because paddling is a huge part of surfing. How can a network monitor my web surfing?

At work when on web sites like banking, e mail, sports ect. how can a network monitor my web surfing. I mean I have personel information out there. Can my manager or anyone else see these? If I connect to a router on the road too like at e cafe where you can connect on the way to a client?

How safe is my information?|||The answer is you do not own the network you use, so the owner is allowed to monitor that traffic as long as they give you fair warning.

A network administrator is not interested in your traffic, but making sure you get from point a to point b, without any errors or congestion.

A security guy is going to use third party software on the network that is configured to capture all your web surfing activitiy. If security has given permission to your Manager to view your information he might do so.

Since this is the field I work, I would say 99% of the time, we don't care what you are surfing on the internet as long as it doesn't violate policy. You can rest assure your information is private, but know that "we're" watching.

At an e cafe make sure your Firewall is on, and you are using a site that supports https on any website you are concerned about your privacy.|||If you connect to a web site using https (encrypted connection), then the only thing your boss or the network gnomes see is that you connected to the site -- they can't necessarily see what type of transactions your are doing.

As for your web surfing while on the road, you have to assume that everything -- including encrypted connections -- might be visible due to a variety of attack vectors that are available.|||Yes they can.

You should assume that they do.

How to stop employees from surfing and IMing at work?

I am a rookie manager, and believe in macro managing; I usually leave my employees alone when they get their work done. Recently, I鈥檝e noticed a few of my employees are spending more time surfing the web and chatting on-line; in fact, at times, they actually put the work off until they finish surfing the web and chatting with their. What's the best position to keep your balance while surfing?

For surfing small waves. Should you stand up completely or squat?|||There is no BEST POSITION. You are riding a moving object that is sliding across a moving, fluid. You pop up, set your feet, flex your knees and stand up, crouch down, lean forward, lean back and whatever else it take to do what you want with the wave, and sometimes you may find yourself walking around a bit, if that's what it takes, especially in small stuff.|||Standing up almost always. Varying levels of knee bending is appropriate at times. Sometimes you can crouch down like when tucking into a barrel, pig dogging, or you just really need some extra speed. Like ill crouch up at the front of my fun board if the waves are real small and i really need the speed.|||When you stand never look down at your feet. Get a feel for popping up with a wide stance, knees bent. Look where you'd like to go, your body will follow. Then either lie or knee on the board and practice you paddle strokes. Practice this for at least and hour non-stop every day until you get use to it. What kind of surf board should i get to start surfing with?

hey, i want to start surfing. but i dont really feel like getting a long board surfboard because there pretty big and i dont have the room for one that big. so do you think i could start surfing with a short board? (like the kind with 3 fins) or do i like have to start with a long board?|||i'd have to recommend doing a few lessions then if your surfing- poping up etc

Surfing is an ocean sport, that should only be practiced by persons who are already competent ocean swimmers. Swimming in a pool is neat, but it's not ocean swimming, with undertows, rip tides and sometimes BIG waves. I have seen lots of great pool swimmers get rescued. So, my first tip on how to surf is to be at home in the ocean. There are way too many dangerous people in the water now. They are a danger to themselves and other surfers, don't join their ranks.

You may already have the ocean skills, we don't know too much about you.

Lessons are the best way to start. Lessons can come from a professional instructor, or surfing family members or experienced surfing friends. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don't want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. The last thing experienced surfers want is for inexperienced people to just grab a board, rush into the surf and get in our way. Lessons shorten the learning curve significantly. And they help keep ignorant, un-prepared kooks out of the water and out of the way of more experienced surfers.

Beginners should take advantage of renting boards and wetsuits while taking lessons. If it turns out you don't like surfing, you haven't wasted a whole lot of money on gear that you are not going to use. When you are ready to buy, don't waste your time on line, go to a good local surf shop to discuss your size (weight is import, height isn't), skill level and local wave conditions. After 44 years of surfing, I still get my surfboard buying advice from good local shops in the places where i surf. A surf shop is also the best place to find information on instructors.

Almost ALL instructors will start you off on a longboard. It is just too difficult for most people to learn how to surf on a short board. Most get quickly discouraged, and just quit. Now, over the years, I have seen some young surfers start out on short boards and master them in time. There are no RULES on what kind of board you learn on, but it's just common sense to learn on a long board.

When you are ready to buy your own board, please avoid popouts in general, and especially popouts made in third world country sweat shops by People who have probably never seen the ocean. http://bp3.blogger.com/_hPACOtZKKko/RkST鈥?/a>

Herre is why to avoid ALL popouts:http://www.mckevlins.com/nopopstory.htm

Anybody who would give you SPECIFIC advice as to what size or type board to buy on-line is foolish. Anybody who would take that advice is more foolish

And, I know there are lots of nice kids who want to share information with you on line. But don't take the advice from youngsters, who may know even less than you do about surfing, a surfboard is a big investment. I hope you are mature enough to read through the BS that lots of people throw at you on line. You don't know anywhere near enough about surfboards to by one from an on-line web site without getting disappointed. Don't waste your time on line, go straight to the source, a good local shop. All decent shops has a good slection of used boards for sale, or they sell used boards on consignment.

I have been surfing since 1966, and it has provided a lifetime of fun for me. If you take the time to learn the right way, it will be a lifetime of fun for you too.Good Luck|||you don't need a professional person to teach you" how to surf", and if you don't know what size board you need ask around the shops and it's most likely you wud start off with a bigger board but no worries you can learn through that and improve. everyone starts out on a big fish... i wouldn't bother with the foam boards you can move past them pretty easily.

What hour of the night are the least people online surfing the net?

What time of night are the fewest people online, primarily surfing the net? This question relates to server maintenance and when to best run software updates on it.|||This is definitely a variable that could change with many factors, but looking at our server information, we see that Saturdays and Sundays at about 5am is the slowest traffic time for our site.

-Nick|||Given that it's always 9AM somewhere in the world, this question can't be answered as posed. You have to consider where your audience is. If it's a local audience, 2:00 AM to about 5:00 AM is probably a safe time to perform maintenance. If it's a national audience, you'll have to adjust for that.

You might want to study your server's logs, if any, to see when you tend to have your lowest activity. Also, consider taking your server offline during maintenance just in case there's an insomniac out there.|||A good bet would be 10PM to 6AM. That's when I update a lot of my programs, i.e. Microsoft stuff, virus definitions, program updates, driver updates, etc. etc. The speed seems to be the highest about then. Weekends it might be a little slower, due to people don't have to work the next morning. So try Sun-Thur.

Good luck.

What do glasses wearers do when surfing?

Hi,

I am pretty much blind without my glasses (prescription so bad that they don't even do soft lens for me yet!) and have booked a surfing holiday in a few weeks. I am wondering how other surfers either secure their glasses or see when surfing!

Any advice welcome!

Thanks!|||I wear soft contacts, never had a problem. If I were you, I would just try your hard contacts with an extra set in case you lose one. But I would never try goggles.|||prescription goggles are the best, and for the outside of the goggles, use rain-x it is just like water, follow the instructions on the bottle and you will have a perfectly clear outside lense, it makes the water bounce off , it is amazing, try it on cars, I also use it on my motorbike screen, and my helmet visor, this is far superior to any product I have used, the next best thing is a product called (cat crap) yes that's right cat crap, bought on ebay, but this is a paste, for insde of leses %26amp; screens ,it also gets a giggle when you say I have cat crap on my face and in my pocket,|||If you can't use contacts, I don't know what to say. I always surf with my soft contacts without any problems, but I don't know if hard lenses would work. Wearing glasses works fine if you just get a strap for them (as long as you don't fall too much) but glasses don't work too well if you get them wet.|||My friend surfs without glasses and has a litte trouble surfing, but its apparently not that bad. I guess prescription googles would be an option, you don't really want to be wearing glass while you're surfing. Or you could get contacts, I know people who surf with them. Of course, you should ask your optometrist first.|||Most people just squint and stare. If you are going surfing for the first time, it won't matter much what you can or can't see anyhow. You are way too raw to pretend that you can 'read' the waves. Just do what the instructor tells you, and have fun. If you get hooked, and decide to take real lessons, on a long term basis, we can cross that bridge when you come to it. Good luck, have fun.|||You really don't have to focus on much when your surfing. Thanks.|||not a chance, you are still limited by the slow connection receiving the information.|||This is incorrect, at least to some degree. It would depend on the video lag (try low resolution). How do u know where the surfing sections are at your local beach?

I want to go surfing and I have no clue where to go I don't wanna be surfing In an area that's only for swimmers also I live in San diego so if u know any good spots for a beginner that would be great|||I strongly suggest you don't just grab a board and head to the beach, even with a beginner board at a beginner spot. I can promise you that it won't work and you will only be frustrated. At the very least get somebody that you know surfs to take you out. There are several beginner spots in your area.

The best thing you can do is simply to contact a one of the many surf schools in San Diego County and sign up for a lesson. They will take you to the right spots at the right time. I will be much safer and you will have more fun. You will also happen to learn much faster doing it this way.|||This varies from beach to beach, so you're going to have to ask the lifeguards and locals. Sometimes there are no "zones." You could also go into the various possible places where surfing first started. Everyone thinks Hawaii, but I know surfers journal in one of their recent issues argued that point a bit. There are numerous people you could mention who brought different aspects to surfing and changed it in different ways. Talk about where the surfing industry started and where it has come to now and where it might go. The topic has been covered to death should be no shortage of info.

Where do you keep your money and car key with alarm system while you are surfing?

I just wonder how people keep their money and car key with alarm system while they are surfing. I don't feel comfortable to leave stuff in the car. My friend hang his key on his neck, but my car key has alarm system. How do you guys deal with this?|||Any surf shop or dive shop has the waterproof containers you can hang around your neck, but honestly, they are not comfortable and they can fall off if you get caught in a wash.

You can get a spare key made that will do nothing but open the driver's door. It won't start your engine. It won't do anything but open that door. As it doesn't have any electronics, it's safe to take surfing.

So you can leave your regular keys and money in the car (some people hide them inside the spare wheel well in the trunk) and just take the single key. You should have a velcro fastened pocket on your surf shorts, and just tuck the key into that.|||I leave my keys at the top of the front tire.. try under the car if there's a place to put them near your engine.. every surfer has a hiding place!|||see if the place your at has a locker|||Top of the tire - I usually hide money in the car somewhere but dont actually need any when out surfing.|||Well, this is just me, but as a guy that spent a good amount of time in prison, I have a carrying case in my person at all time if you get my drift.|||They have little dry bags that you can buy that can hold like your wallet or even smaller ones just for your key. Is it OK to go surfing 24 hours after getting 2 staples in my scalp?

I麓ve two staples in my scalp, the wound is 2.5cm, nothing too heavy. Most of the webpages say that I麓ve to leave the wound dry for 24 hours. The 24 hours are over, Im in Hawaii and I wanna go surfing... Is it OK to get in the water? What are the odds of getting an infection or something like that?

Please answer ASAP, I wanna go surfing!

THANKS!|||The sensible answer is probably NO. But when it comes to surfing in Hawaii, I would say yes. A few years back, I split the top of my head wide open while surfing. I walked out of the water bleeding like something from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was staying right on the beach, so I walked to the condo, and my wife washed me up and closed a four inch gash with some Butterfly dressings, and I was back in the water riding an overhead swell from an offshore tropical depression. Was that smart? No. Did it hurt? Yeah. Did I have a great day surfing? You bet. And now I have a four inch scar on my scalp that looks like someone attacked me with a tomahawk. But I wasn't real pretty to begin with, and I sure did get some great rides that day.|||My buddy once had a smaller sized headwound with 3 staples, he went and got a swim cap because we had good swell the next day, we cleaned it off again as soon as he got out as well. Didn't cause any problems and it stayed surprisingly really dry. Sure he got some looks buy it was worth it.|||I would just call the doctor really quick (: If he says yes, then sure, it's fine. What is the center of the break in surfing?

People keep saying that you should never paddle towards the center of the break while surfing. I'm a beginner and I'm not quite sure what the center of the break is, I don't want to get out there and break the road rules straight away, so i was wondering whether someone could explain it to me.

Thanks.|||well what type of break is it, most break are sandy beach breaks where even if you paddle out you will most likely paddle into the center, you just can't help it. if its a point break or reef break that curves left or right, just paddle toward the opposite and around. watch the tides for rip tides too. being a beginner can be a lot of work but it will pay off in the end|||I believe the "center of the break" is referring to the center of the wave. A good wave will break in the middle/center and then break in either direction towards what's known as the "shoulder". It's usually to best to paddle towards the "shoulder" of the wave, instead of the center. This wave is less powerful at the shoulder and should give you a little more time to get to the wave before it breaks. It's obviously a lot easier to just paddle over the wave then have to fight the whitewash.

Paddle until your outside the "impact zone" where the waves are breaking and wait until you see a good one heading your way :).

"The Break" can also mean the area or part of the beach where the waves are good or breaking bigger than other parts of the beach. Sometimes, if the waves are big enough, surfers will paddle out where the break is smaller and then paddle down to the center of the break. By paddling where the waves are smaller, instead of the center of the break, the surfer is minimizing the chance of getting slammed by the main break on the way out.

More info about waves can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_wave|||The center of the wave is where it breaks first. A wave has a shoulder where the wave hasn't broken yet. Paddle towards the shoulder to avoid getting hit by someone and it is easier to get out.

The Surfboard Man

http://www.thesurfboardman.com/|||You should paddle hard towards the center or "peak" only if you are in position to turn and catch the wave. What sport is more dangerous, Big Wave Surfing or Bull Riding?

I just moved to a rural area, and I got into a debate with a friend about Surfing and Bull-riding. We both have our own views on the subject, but it would be interesting to see how others think about this.|||There are far more injuries per participant every year from bull riding (in fact from all rodeo sports) than there are from surfing. Every rodeo rider I've ever met or known about has had at least one pretty bad injury from competing. I've only ever met one surfer who had an injury, and that was caused by colliding with another surfer. Hitting water is a lot more forgiving than hitting dirt. Plus a board is not consciously trying to kill you like a bronco or bull is doing.

Maybe if surfers rode on the backs of sharks instead of boards there would be equal danger.|||Well I said dangerous in the question. Meaning Life threatening. Yes it seems easier to get injured bullriding, but surfing is more fatal.

How can I catch a clean wave when I go surfing?

I go surfing at a beginner spot and I use a 6ft6 fishtail board. I find it hard to catch a clean wave. What must I do? I can turn into the wave but I lose speed quite fast. Is there a way that I can not lose speed and surf a clean wave? And must my foot be on the grip at the back or just before it? Thanks!|||Maintaining speed on a wave is all about being in the right spot. Chances are you are going strait on the wave when you first stand up and if you are surfing small waves this will take you out of the power zone. What you want to do is paddle in a bit diagonally or immediately turn when you stand up. Stay towards the upper part of the wave and generate speed by pumping. Its not easy and takes practice. You would have an easier time on a funboard or longboard.

Whats some good beaches to practice surfing for a beginner on the east coast in Florida?

I'm a beginner at surfing. Like a total newbie haha.

Today, i practiced at Jetty Park, by the Cape Canaveral in Cocoa Beach.

Im wondering if there are any other good places for beginner surfers on the east coast of florida?|||The Jetty is good. Try the Pier in Cocoa Beach which is a couple miles south of there. This is the best for a beginner. It is fairly shallow and a sandy bottom. Just sit further from the crowds and it'll be all good.

Other breaks you could look at are:

Most of the Streets in Cocoa Beach.

The beaches along Patrick AFB. 2nd light and picnic tables.

Further south is the Boardwalk, the one with Bizarros pizza.

If you keep going south you'll end up at the Sebastian Inlet.

Most of these are sand bottoms from what I remember. What is a good laptop for surfing the web and writing word documents?

I have a budget of $800 and was wondering about a good laptop for writing microsoft word documents and surfing the web|||+Any laptop will fit that bill. Can someone start surfing on a shortboard?

My son is 12 and weighs about 40 kgs he is interested in surfing i thought of putting him on a shortboard but i don't know if he will be able to learn on it. I used to surf when i was young but i learnt on a longboard.|||Lessons are the best way to start. Lessons can come from a professional instructor, or surfing family members or experienced surfing friends. If you haven't surfed in a long while, maybe you should get back into it! And, a professional instructor might be the best starting place for your son. He has to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don't want to drown him), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. The last thing experienced surfers want is for inexperienced people to just grab a board, rush into the surf and get in our way. Lessons shorten the learning curve significantly. And they help keep ignorant, un-prepared kooks out of the water and out of the way of more experienced surfers.

However, even in surfing, all things are relative. For a guy who is 6 feet tall, a a 9 foot long board is 150% of his height. For a kid who is 4 feet tall, a 6 foot long board is 150% of his height. See what I mean? What is most important is that he has a board that is able to float him well enough to paddle and take off on a wave. How much he weighs, and the board's bouyancy are the most important factors, not length or how tall he is.

Get him going, all 5 of my grandchildren surf (some more than others), and the two ten years old (cousins) both have 6 foot long boards. I used to surf when I was young, too. But i still surf now that almost 60. Go in teh water with him. The family that surfs together.... Good luck!|||AVOID SOFT TOPS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

they are horrible things to surf. AFTER and only after you've let your son have a few surf lessons, the instructor will suggest a good board for him, but if he/she suggests soft tops, tell him/her that your friend Tj says they are rubbish. i would suggest a fish of some description. i started on a 7'6" hood villain and that was awesome to surf, but that may be too big for your son :) fish boards are really fat and really floaty so they are easy to get up on :)|||i started on a 7'6" board and it was perfect. definitely not a shortboard, cuz theyre super hard to start with. he could just get frustrated and never want to surf again. NOT A SOFT TOP!! those suck and are super heavy. also, it may as well be a respectable board that he can keep and use for a long time.|||its possible but i wouldnt recommend it only because its super frustrating. i started on a shortboard and i regret it because i feel like surfing would have been a lot easier for me if i had started on a longboard and worked my way up.|||It depends how short your talking. Personally I would start him on a 8' softtop.

Is there a wireless router that will record web addresses of users surfing the internet?

Is there a wireless router that will record web addresses of users surfing the internet?

I have a small office and wondering if there is a wireless router that will let me know what websites people are clicking onto?|||Not that I am aware of == you need a 'Proxy server' between the users and the 'real' Internet (which, to be honest, if you are running a Business, you should already have).

NB. I hope your Wireless is secure ?

The wireless router should connect to a 'DMZ' port on your main Internet router (so that there is a firewall between the wireless users and your internal network) - incoming Wireless access should be regarded as just as dangerous as 'raw' internet (hackers, port scanners etc etc)

You should also be running WPA2 encryption plus RADIUS authentication ... (otherwise there is little to stop non-employees using your router to surf the net ... or 'hackers' browsing your internal system looking for 'interesting' files to download - you might think 'I don't have anything of interest' but your employee name / address/ salary and bank details could end up being sold on ebay ...)|||Some routers can be configured to log network activity in this way, and produce usage reports. Talk to your ISP or network provider for suggestions.

Surfing....?

this might sound really stupid but is there a way to learn how to surf when your not near water because i want to learn because i want to move to hawaii in a couple years and already be able to surf|||Not to seem abrupt, but, NO. Surfing is an ocean sport, to do it right, you have to be at home in the ocean, with its currents, rips, undertows and sometimes big waves. I don't just mean being good at swimming in a pool, the ocean can be very unforgiving. I have seen lots of really good pool swimmers have to get rescued. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don't want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. You can't do that without an ocean.

When you move to Hawaii, take the time time to learn about the ocean. Go swimming, body surfing and body boarding. When you are really comfortable with it, it's time to start surfing.

Lessons are usually the best way to start, unless you are an adolescent or young adult with lots of pals who surf who can teach you. Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can hook you up with lessons, and even rent you a board to learn on. Just work on your basics, and after you feel good, think about buying a board, but don't rush into anything.

Some folks have said that skateboarding may help. Well, any balance improving activity can be helpful to improve your surfing. That could be skate, snow, wake or skim boarding, working out on a Indo board, or doing the balance beam. HOWEVER, surfing is nothing like skateboarding. You have to paddle and catch a wave. First, and most important, you have to be at home in the ocean. You need to learn the mechanics of surfing, paddling out, catching a wave and standing up on the surfboard. It is after you have gotten all that down, that your balance becomes important, and if you have good balance (because, perhaps, you skateboard), that will only help you ride better.

I hope you do get to move to Hawaii. I have surfed for 42 years, and never surfed there. (I did lay over there to re-fuel once when flying across the Pacific ) I have always conisdered it sort of a paradise, but in reality, there is crime and poverty there, too. And nasty tourists who make life difficult for locals. The surfers there, like surfers everywhere, love surfing, but expect new learners to be respectful and confident. I hope you do learn to surf some day, it will give you joy for life.|||Start by riding a skateboard. It will at least give you a little taste of surfing.|||yes, skate half pipes. Learning to drop in and turn on a miniramp will teach your body what the movement feels like and help you develop confidence and overcome fears. This will give you a great head start towards learning to surf if you can't be in the water yet.|||i would ride a skateboard like maybe a long skateboard and i would ride an indo board|||start on a skate board and also get an indo board if you dont know what that is then look it up there real sick itll help you out a lil with balance and stuff.|||i wouldn't agree with everyone saying to try a skateboard because i don't really see the resemblance haha but there are these skateboard-like products called "the wave" board and that is probably the closest thing you will get to surfing. they are really fun, you should definately buy one. Here's a website that sells them. Good Luck!

Surfing???

Should I start to surf? What board should I get? Do I need lessons?|||despite what everyone says about seeking out an answer from a local surf shop, being a beginner you are at the same level as every other beginner...the very start.

Your best option is to sign up for a lesson with a surf group. They will go through the basic motions of surf before putting you out in the waves. They have great learner boards that float well and have great stability for the first timer. They are soft and wont break.

If you get the hang of it in your first lesson, then ask to rent/borrow a board from the school to use a few times on your own. The best way to make it work is to get out there and practice.

Don't go and buy a board straight away which some shops will insist you do. Have a lesson, make sure you like it. Borrow a board for a few more sessions and trial different boards. You will soon find out which board suits you best and one that you will be excited to ride everytime you hit the water.

Surfing is amazing. I try and surf everyday and never get sick of it. It does take time to learn, so don't be too upset if you are not out the back within your first few months of surfing. Take your time and enjoy it.

For a starter board try a short board (I still surf occasionally long boards are more of a pain- personally), and you might want to consider lessons unless you are someone who learns from watching.|||yeah you should start to surf, but you're gonna need a beach. lessons will help you but the best thing is probably surfing with people who know what they are doing so you can spend time with them and learn everything. and don't get a longboard like the first guy said. go to a surf shop and talk to the guys there about it and they will help you out.

PS: it is going to be very hard, and you'll need a lot of patience and hundreds of hours of practice, so be prepared.|||One lesson is all it takes. You learn the rest of it in the water on your own with surfers. Do it. Try different boards to see which one works best for you.|||long board (NSP is the best brand for beginners)

no, lessons are not necessary. If you have enough potential to start surfing, then you'll pretty much be able to learn on your own.

Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can hook you up with lessons, and even rent you a board to learn on. Just work on your basics, and after you feel good, think about buying a board, but don't rush into anything. And, please don't waste your time (or money) buying something on line.

After you learn to swim and master the ocean, get your REAL advice from a surf shop, where industry professionals earn their rent money selling surfboards. However, if they think you are just a 'kook' tourist out to rent a board, you won't necessarily get the best attention.

Most people learn best on long boards, although I have seen lots of surfers start on a short board and master it. In the long run, there are NO RULES on what type of board you haven to learn on. Long boards are ideal for learners. There are also good intermediate length boards to learn on, fun shapes, mini-mals and some hybrids. That is why instructors use long boards of fun boards (or even softtops).

Group lessons are cheaper and more fun. Call ahead and see if you can make reservations. The instructor will supply the board with the lessons.|||Boogie boards aren't designed to surf with, so there'll be no easy way to learn to surf on a boogie board.... unless you wanta boogie board. Get a surfboard, you can't surf without a surfboard. You could get like a softop or something. Boogie boarding and surfing are waaaay 2 different things.|||body boarding is fine for beginners because you can get a feel for sliding down the face of a wave without risking the repeated falling of trying to standup. if you feel confident on the body board, you can try "drop knee" which is sliding your front foot up and putting your back knee on the board.|||you can get a soft body board or a long board to learn with but definitely expensive if you aren't going to use it later you might wanna rent one|||You really can't surf with a boggie board so I suggest that you get a surf board where your going, cause I know thier should be a shop that sell's surf boards and swim suits.|||YOU NEED A SURF BOARD!!!! i also would recomend a teacher|||You can't learn how to "SURF" on a boogie board. You can learn how to ride a boogie board, but that is not surfing. Standing up on a surfboard and riding waves in is surfing. By the way, Boogie boarding can be great fun, and "spongers' have their own sets of moves, that are unique to that sport. There is more to Boogie boarding than just splashing around in the water. it is also an ocean sport.

Surfing is an ocean sport. before you decide to surf, decide to know and understand the ocean. Learn to be at home with its currents, rips, undertows and sometimes BIG waves. The original surfers were watermen (and women, both men and women surfed, but certain waves were reserved for royalty.

Lessons are usually the best way to start, unless you are an adolescent or young adult with lots of pals who surf who can teach you. Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can hook you up with lessons, and even rent you a board to learn on.

Be careful of what you read here on line. There are lots of really well meaning young folks who have neat answers about surfing, but at 55, I tend to classify anyone under 25 as a kid. After I found this site, I figured that I could answer a few questions, and spread the 'good news' of surfing. After you learn to swim and master the ocean, get your REAL advice from a surf shop, where industry professionals earn their rent money selling surfboards. However, if they think you are just a 'kook' tourist out to rent a board, you won't necessarily get the best attention.

Also, I have to be honest with you. You can have great fun in a week, whether you boogie board, or take surfing lessons. But there is no way you are really going to learn how to "SURF" in one week. So, go to the beach, take some lessons, have a blast, and maybe next year you can come back and spend more time.

Good luck. Once you try surfing (and learn the 'right way') you'll have fun for life. I have been surfing since 1966.

http://360guide.info/surfing/surfboard-t鈥?/a>|||if you realllllly want to surf, I suggest renting a board for a week- or, ask your neighbors if they have any old boards you could borrow for the week.

surfing on a boogie board (also called a bodyboard) is called 'stand up-bodyboarding' the bigger your bodyboard is, the easier it is to stand on a bodyboard. There is no easy way to learn to stand on a bodyboard, and it is a little different from surfing, because not only is the board smaller, but you have to balance your weight on the front and back of the board to actually ride the wave. You can try it, but it's not at all easy.

If you can't get ahold of a surfboard, and you find stand-up too difficult, then I reccomend working on your bodyboarding. it is a really great sport- have you ever seen the pros do it? They can get awesome air (flying off the wave and up into the air), and they can spin their boards around (360's), and do flips off of the wave, and throw huge spray with their boards. If you haven't seen good bodyboarders, then you wouldn't know what I'm talking about. They ride the wave to the side like surfers, not just the white wash (the white foamy part of the wave that has already broken). Try going onto youtube and searching 'pro bodyboarding'- you'll be amazed at the stuff they can do. So don't be afraid to just stick with bodyboarding- it is, in my opinion, besides surfing, the best, most innovative sport out there.|||Well you can't necessarily surf on a boogie board. The closest thing you can do is throw the boogie board down on shore and glide on the thin layer of water [standing up].

Other than that, get a real surf board and find someone to teach you :) You can try teaching yourself, but there are a lot of things you need to know so that probably won't work out TOO well.

~Namine|||no board no surf|||lmao is all im gonna say to this question|||HP,

I think your question has been answered in the above comments. I thought I would drop a line in anyway...

find a surfschool. These guys will give you an hour or two lesson. You can then borrow/rent a board (softboard is best) so you can continue on your path to learning to surf.

Surfing does not come overnight, however the journey is a great one and if you stick with it you will love it! It can take years to get to a good level of surfing, however if you are committed and want to have fun it can come a lot quicker.

Like any sport, have the right equipment can make sure you get the most out of your session. By speaking with a surf school or local surf shop they can point you in the right direction for what board to use. As discussed above for a first timer, get on a large foam board. There are a number of companies that make these. They provide good stability, are unbreakable and wont harm you or anyone around you!

Practice in the broken wave so you have time to stand and balance.

Hope you have a good time HP.

In september we are launching a new site 'mesurf' and this will be an in depth site about helping YOU as a surfer get the most out of the sport. For beginners to experts and covering all aspects of the sport.

Surfing...?

I've always wanted to surf, and i want to learn this summer, but im not sure how i should start out. what do i need to just try it?|||Sign up for a surf lesson at your local surf shop- or a couple of lessons. In the summer you usually won't need a wetsuit and the surf schools/instructors usually provide the beginners boards. Once you decide it is for you then you can shop for a board- recommend buying a used one as your needs will change as you improve. For younger set there are many surf camps around that have one week sessions. A knowledgeable instructor will teach you the basics and have you standing at the end of two hour lesson. We just went through this with my husband and daughter in the last year... and now have 4 boards in the garage. Happy surfing!|||see howisthesurf.com

Surfing???????

ok so how does surfing relate to freefall, force, air resistance, and friction?

please have good answers my cousin has a physics project due in 2 weeks and needs help!|||It doesn't. There is a linear force moving the wave towards the beach, and I think the surface also has some angular momentum, but that's not too important. Boards are designed to have low resistance, (friction), so they glide over the wave, so while the momentum of the wave moves the board forward, it is not hindered by still water in front of it. If the surfer is actually ON the wave, he will be facing down a bit so there will be a component of his weight acting to push him forward, as you can model him as a ball rolling down a slope, in an incredibly approximated way...

I would say there is negligible air resistance, and freefall has absolutely nothing to with this. Random factoid: humans fall at around 120mph in freefall when skydiving.

Surfing......?

What challenges have faced surfing overtime?|||Surfing started in the warm waters of the Pacific ocean practiced by a people who were at ease with the ocean and (mostly) with each other. When Christian missionaries found the Hawaiians surfing instead of being serious or being pious, that almost put an end to surfing.

After WWII, a lot of surfers were vets who were burned out and probably a little PSTD'ed out, and they weren't really interestedinto integrating back into conventional society (that's also where our outlaw motorcycle gangs originated). Surfing was, for a large part, a past time for "beach bums", and not very socially acceptable. It was probably the book and move 'Gidget' that helped move surfing into mainstream society.

As surfing became more acceptable, it came under fire for 'safety' reasons. As more and more tourists had to be rescued, after thinking they could surf without any lessons (or even knowing how to swim in the ocean), the more public safety organizations pushed to limit and restrict surfing.

As the surf industry has grown, and its marketing improved, thousand of new people have been introduced to surfing (which is a good thing), however, too many of these people have no respect for the ocean, the beach or each other and they are turning a beautiful ocean art into a yuppie status symbol.
