Is a rash guard really necessary to wear while surfing?

I've never gotten rashes from swimming in saltwater. Never. So I don't understand the point of it. I don't really care about cold weather either, I can pretty much handle both extremes pretty well. Is it ok to go surfing without a rash guard on?|||No.

However it will protect you from the sun and getting burnt, from some injury should you come into contact with the beach when coming off your board. It also protects from wind burn and any bits of Jelly fish sting in the water.|||Yeah bro.
