I've recently moved to a beach town and am trying to find anew hobby. I'm looking for an ocean sport aside from surfing, something differnt, I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!|||depending on the ocean conditions, other water sports may include kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, kite sailing, jet skis, rowing, snorkeling and scuba diving, cruising (powerboat) and fishing.
hope this helps|||Take a look at www.WaterplayUSA.com. It is a nationwide water sports directory. If it can be done in or around the water, they should be able to point you in the right direction.|||I highly recommend stand up paddle boarding. It's basically a longboard on which you are constantly standing (some people kneel down and paddle with both arms too) and using a paddle to propel you forward similar to a kayak or canoe.
SUP boarding in the ocean is a very good workout. And if you choose to surf with it, all that much more fun. You have the luxury of a paddle and also that you are already standing, so it takes some of the challenge out of regular surfing to some extent.
Ummmm aside from that, you can definitely windsurf, kite surf, kayak, body board, knee board... but I can't help thinking in terms of "surfing" the waves, it's just too much fun not to recommend in some way.
