Wanna go surfing in california for four days, dont have anything what would be the cheapest way to go?

me and four other guys are planning on going to california for four days and we have never been surfing before so we want to try it out while we are there. we are going down in a van and plan to sleep in it at night, would it be cheaper to buy a board if we are going to use it for four days or would it be cheaper to rent it, where should we go since we are beginners and where should we park our van to sleep?|||Big Sur, other parts of Monterey County, Santa Cruz County, all have surfing spots plus board rental/surfing lesson places up and down the coast.

And Big Sur offers some lovely campgrounds that aren't expensive, which would add to the fun and keep costs down. (See http://www.discovernortherncalifornia.co鈥?/a> for more info)|||i live in newport beach ca and you cant really rent boards around here, dana point is ur best bet and by far u should rent four boards, good ones can cost 500-1000 dollars. rent long boards otherwise you will never even stand up. at dana point you can sleep in the parking lot, there are bonfire pits too. have fun, four days will definately not be enough time to learn how to really surf. iv been doing it since i was 5 and im 17 now. gl|||you suck at life|||You may want to take a surfing class just to learn the basic, which includes board rentals. You can always find a cheap motel so you don't have to sleep in a van. I know it may sound cool, but the streets of L.A. can be unforgiving if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Play it safe and smart, and you'll have a good time.|||Jaxon had some good ideas: Dana Point is a good place. I also recommend rentals and lessons:

OC Surf n Sport Surf Shop - www.ocsurfsport.com

34255 Pacific Coast Highway, Unit 112, Dana Point - (949) 842-2136

However, if you park your van around the beach at Dana Point, you will most certainly be rousted by local cops or state park rangers. They take a very dim view of people who try to camp on the street. However, you are in luck. Go to www.reserveamerica.com and make a reservation at Doheney State Beach, which is right there at Dana Point. You can park there, and even pitch a tent, have a campfire, and take warm showers (bring quarters).
