Surfing...?

So how overweight can you possibl be in order to surf?Obviously surfing demands a person to be fit to a degree. But i was just wondering how much?or does it even matter...?|||If by overweight you mean mean just a little extra on you, it doesn't matter. However, you have to be fit enough to paddle out through the surf, and if you're new at it, it's pretty hard, especially when its really going off. As you're paddling out the area where a lot of people have problems is right around where the normal sized waves are breaking, many people struggle through that area.

If you're serious about trying it, focus on exercising your arms for about 6 weeks before you start, even if you're fit enough to paddle, it helps a lot. I find that if you get ready before, you'll have an easier time getting out to the surf, catching waves and standing up. I'd reccomend doing push ups, swimming alot, and, if possible, chin ups and pull ups.

Also, try skateboarding a little, to just get used to what it feels like to stand up on a board.|||People of all sizes surf. As long as you have the strength to paddle out, anybody can do it.|||It's ok if you're somewhat over weight. I've seen plenty of people out there who were...husky.

But, you do need to have enough upper body strength to paddle out there. It's not easy. And, you have to be able to stand up quickly. You can't struggle to your feet.

Technically, I could be considered overweight. I'm 5'2" 145-140 and my doctor said I should lose 15-20 pounds! I thought that was a LITTLE drastic, but whatever. I surf almost every day. I wish I could surf every day. And, there are always guys out there with pot bellies and beer guts.

As long as you have a solid muscle mass under your "fluff" you'll be fine. If you need to, just hit the gym or do some push ups and you'll be ready before you know it. :)|||it does not matter how fat you are, you would just need a bigger board|||it doesn't matter. people learning should be fit, but the experienced can be totally out of shape and do it easily. There's pics in magazines of old fat hawaiians shredding big waves.|||there really isnt a size limit for surfing if you are overweight then all you need is a larger surfboard to surf on it will help out alot if yo have a larger surf board if you are goingg to learn how to surf i would consitter on getting lessons they shoulld help you out alot|||I've seen some fat old dudes that look like giant penguins absolutely ripping|||It dosent really matter how much you weigh. You don't have to be a certain size.|||At some point coordination will become an issue.

I wouldn't recommend it for someone seriously out of shape because being a strong swimmer is important.

If you have a lot of belly fat it will affect your ability to paddle, your weight will affect your ability to balance, and your lack of overall fitness can cause you to become exhausted more easily. So it does matter.

Work out doing some lap swimming in a pool twice a week for several months. Trims the fat pretty well.|||If you can lie on the ground on your stomach and standup from there, then you are on your way|||No need to worry about that there lots of type of surf boards .

you can choose a board that fits you.

whats important is to never give up until you get a cool rush!
