What's the best position to keep your balance while surfing?

For surfing small waves. Should you stand up completely or squat?|||There is no BEST POSITION. You are riding a moving object that is sliding across a moving, fluid. You pop up, set your feet, flex your knees and stand up, crouch down, lean forward, lean back and whatever else it take to do what you want with the wave, and sometimes you may find yourself walking around a bit, if that's what it takes, especially in small stuff.|||Standing up almost always. Varying levels of knee bending is appropriate at times. Sometimes you can crouch down like when tucking into a barrel, pig dogging, or you just really need some extra speed. Like ill crouch up at the front of my fun board if the waves are real small and i really need the speed.|||When you stand never look down at your feet. Get a feel for popping up with a wide stance, knees bent. Look where you'd like to go, your body will follow. By getting the feel for the board and doing this many times, you'll eventually get a great feel for the board and you will be able to adjust your stance.
