What hour of the night are the least people online surfing the net?

What time of night are the fewest people online, primarily surfing the net? This question relates to server maintenance and when to best run software updates on it.|||This is definitely a variable that could change with many factors, but looking at our server information, we see that Saturdays and Sundays at about 5am is the slowest traffic time for our site.

-Nick|||Given that it's always 9AM somewhere in the world, this question can't be answered as posed. You have to consider where your audience is. If it's a local audience, 2:00 AM to about 5:00 AM is probably a safe time to perform maintenance. If it's a national audience, you'll have to adjust for that.

You might want to study your server's logs, if any, to see when you tend to have your lowest activity. Also, consider taking your server offline during maintenance just in case there's an insomniac out there.|||A good bet would be 10PM to 6AM. That's when I update a lot of my programs, i.e. Microsoft stuff, virus definitions, program updates, driver updates, etc. etc. The speed seems to be the highest about then. Weekends it might be a little slower, due to people don't have to work the next morning. So try Sun-Thur.

Good luck.
